Church of Pagania Faneromeni

Church of Pagania Faneromeni

The Churchu of Panagia Faneromeni was built around the end of the 16th century into a three-aisled basilica and is located right near the Cathedral of Apostles Peter and Paul. It took its name from the icon-pilgrimage of Theotokos Faneromeni dating back to the 13th century placed at the diakonikon of the temple. Due to the function of the temple as a parish, the church has undergone a lot of major interventions resulting in the loss of the biggest part of the murals that were decorating the original temple.
