The Vlachogianneio Museum

Vlachogianneio Museum of Modern History and Art (Veria): the Museum is located at Anixeos street at the park of Ag. Anargiri; it is housed in a preserved building donated by Vlachogianni Family to the Holy Metropolis of Veria, Naoussa and Campania. It was originally operating as a Museum of Modern History and Art, hosting exhibits from the rich historical collection of Metropolis, such as Byzantine icons, relics and vestments. Today, it operates as the Macedonian Struggle Museum and houses Mr. Dodos Kanellos’ great collection of military uniforms and equipment.
The museum’s collection is exposed on two floors. On the first floor, the visitor has the opportunity to learn and become familiar by texts, photographs and personal belongings of the fighters such as swords, medals and diplomas, with the activities of the national fighters for the liberation of Macedonia from the Ottoman rule. The second floor is dedicated to everyday military life where impressive exhibits are exposed such as rare military costumes, documents and equipment.
