Sykea

Sykea

The village owes its name to the fact that in earlier times there were many fig trees in the area. The location of the village from its creation until today is the same while the names of the wider area such as Sarakina, Galakta and Palioklisi testify that the area was inhabited probably from the Byzantine years. In fact, in the locatin of Sarakina there was a settlement that was destroyed with the only remnant of the church of Ai-Nikolas. During the Macedonian Struggle, the area of Sykea was a passage for Greek guerrillas who were often hosted in houses of the village.
