Tradition

A place with obvious signs of human presence going back thousands of years, Veria presents a dynamic cultural current that flows from a rich and complex past, starting from the Neolithic Age; in the recent years the town was marked by the settlement of refugees. The customs and traditions of the area were enriched with those of Asia Minor, Pontos and Eastern Thrace, characteristic examples of which are “Qurbani” of St. Tryphon and Momogeroi.

A wealth of tradition in cultural – social and religious customs, songs, dances, traditional cooking, etc. comprises a priceless heritage; the people of Veria create a palette of cultural colors as the local population (Roumloukiotes, Sarakatsanoi, Vlachoi) was enriched by the presence of refugees of Capadocia, Pontus, Eastern Romylia, Thrace, Asia Minor, Crete, etc.
