The settlement of Ammos is located south east of Veria at a distance of 6.5 km. Aliakmonas river flows very close to the settlement and the settlement owes its name to the riparian sandy beach. In 1922 and a little later, refugees from Asia Minor were settled in the area. In the center of the village stands a church dedicated to Saint Georgios which was founded in 1954 and completed in 1962-63. Near the church there is a plane tree planted in 1927 by Savva Ovezikoglou, one of the first settlers, while the first stone for the construction of the church was transferred from the estate of Metrophanes Emmanouilidis. Ammos is one of the oldest villages in the production of tsipouro in Veria. According to the records of the customs of Veria, the first permit for distillation was given in the settlement of old Ammos..
